Abstract

Memoir writing is one of the types of contemporary prose that has reached its perfection with the novel Memoirs of Holy Defense. One of the characteristics of these works is the use of poems in the text. The current research seeks to investigate the type, function and quality of the poems of these texts with the help of library tools and descriptive-analytical method. Based on this, five works that are more popular and are among the best examples of sustainable literature were selected for analysis. The poems of these texts are more than those of classical Persian poets, which have four main content areas: 1. Valor of warriors and excitement of the audience 2. Captivity, homesickness and sense of nostalgia 3. Celebration of martyrs and warriors 4. Consequences of war and destruction. Poetry in these works, unlike the past, has more of an emotional-motivational function. The works depicting the early days of the war have epic poems and show the bravery of the warriors based on national-religious themes. The spiritual atmosphere of the war made the most of the poems used in these works to be the mystical poems of Rumi. The poems of the novel-memoirs of the prisoners of war show the sense of nostalgia of the captured warriors towards their homeland, family and comrades of martyrs. The words "Karbala", "martyr", "blood" and "ashes" are frequent in these poems, which show the religious elements of defense and the destruction of war.
