The language of the Quran, like that of other sacred texts, is open to interpretation and possesses profound and multi-layered meanings. Features such as eloquence and rhetoric, stylistic diversity, musicality and rhythm, allegorical expressions, textual harmony and coherence, various expressive techniques (such as simile, metaphor, allusion, and metonymy), purposeful repetition, and brevity are among the characteristics of this language. The deep fascination of Ayn al-Qudat with the Quranic language has resulted in the unification of his language with that of the Quran. His intellectual framework and worldview are shaped by the interpretation and exegesis of Quranic verses.
This article examines and analyzes the language of the Quran in the Tamhidat and letters of Ayn al-Qudat Hamadani, focusing on the following aspects: the interpretive language of Ayn al-Qudat and its features; the influence of Quranic language on the structure of Persian phrases and sentences in the Tamhidat and letters; specific syntactical patterns; stylistic and rhetorical points inspired by the Quran; the creation of Sufi terminology using Quranic expressions; the use of metaphorical and allegorical language to interpret the disjointed letters (Muqatta‘at) of the Quran and the dynamic nature of these letters in his perspective; the method of interpretation and use of frequently recurring Sufi-related verses and key Quranic passages; and the adoption of mystical titles and terms derived from Quranic verses.
The research findings indicate that Ayn al-Qudat, in the Tamhidat and letters, employed the language of ecstasy (shathiyat) to interpret Quranic verses, utilizing paradoxical expressions .
