Abstract

Razavi poetry, a branch of religious poetry, holds deep significance due to the spiritual connection of Iranian Muslims with Imam Reza (A.S.). This study explores its semiotic structure by analyzing various codes used by poets to convey meaning through signs and their interrelations. These signs enhance structural coherence and poetic imagery, fostering unity in expression. Using a library-based method, qualitative analysis, and an inductive approach, this study examines religious-Razavi poetry from the 2010s. Findings reveal that poets frequently employ metaphor, simile, hyperbole, allusion, parallelism, musicality, and primarily the ghazal form to express emotions and devotion to Imam Reza (A.S.). Temporal and spatial codes show a preference for the present tense. Poets emphasize thematic unity across vertical and horizontal axes, portraying love and reverence for Imam Reza (A.S.), his miracles, and real locations. Short sentences, vocatives, imperative verbs, and emotional modality create an intimate tone. The recurrent theme of Imam Reza (A.S.) as the guardian of the gazelle introduces rich narrative elements. Some signs transcend direct linguistic meaning, leading to deeper interpretations embedded within the text’s structure.
