Abstract

Dakhil-e Eshgh, a novel by Maryam Basiri, is an outstanding and influential work of contemporary religious literature. By making creative use of narrative time, the novel presents religious beliefs, spiritual experiences, and the religious practices of its characters in a deep and meaningful way. This study uses a descriptive-analytical method and applies Gérard Genette’s theory of narrative time to examine three main elements of the novel: order, duration, and frequency. The research data were collected through textual analysis of the novel. The findings show that the author creates a dynamic and multilayered narrative by using different forms of anachronism, including flashbacks, flashforwards, summary, ellipsis, and conceptual and emotional repetition. The results indicate that time in this novel is not only a framework for the narrative but also a key element in creating meaning, strengthening the religious atmosphere, and building an emotional connection between the reader and the text. This article presents a useful model for analyzing religious narratives within a structuralist narratological framework. It also shows that time in religious fiction plays not only a structural role but also an important role in creating meaning.
