The language of the Qur’an, like that of other sacred texts, is interpretable and possesses deep, multi-layered meanings. Its features include eloquence and rhetorical sophistication, stylistic diversity, musicality and rhythm, figurative expression, textual coherence and unity, various rhetorical devices (such as simile, metaphor, metonymy, and figurative speech), purposeful repetition, and conciseness. Ayn al-Quzat Hamadani’s fascination with the Qur’anic language led to a unity between his own language and that of the Qur’an, so that his cognitive framework and perception of the world were fundamentally shaped by the exegesis of Qur’anic verses. This article examines the Qur’anic language in the Tamhīdāt and letters of Ayn al-Quzat with respect to the following aspects: his interpretive language and its features; the role of Qur’anic language in the structure of Persian phrases and sentences in his treatises and letters; stylistic and rhetorical points; the creation of Sufi terminology using Qur’anic words; the use of metaphorical and figurative language in interpreting Muqattaʿāt and their dynamic significance in his view; the use of frequently cited Sufi verses and key Qur’anic verses; and the employment of mystical terms derived from Qur’anic expressions. One of the key findings of this study is that in the Tamhīdāt and letters, Ayn al-Quzat Hamadani interprets Qur’anic verses through the use of ecstatic language, paradoxical expressions, and figurative language. Through similes and metaphors, he creates unique illustrative images in relation to the Qur’an, which constitutes a distinct stylistic feature of his Qur’anic prose. In his interpretation of Muqattaʿāt, he employs metaphorical and figurative language, relying on definitive verses to elucidate the ambiguous ones. Moreover, he forms Sufi terminology directly from Qur’anic words and expressions.
